Okay, so it seems not many people understand how play by post should work, so I am making this to try and explain things a little better. Consider this a Play by Post (PbP) FAQ.
1: What is expected of a Play by Post?
A: A play by post is run like any normal event, just over a longer time scale so more people can participate in the event due to scheduling. The first step is recruitment. Suggest the type of story you would like and have people voice in that they would also like this for their characters. The next step is jumping in and creating the thread. This will be done by a ST to set the scene for you and your group.
2: How often do I have to post?
A: To earn the full Experience points you should post a solid 2-3 paragraph descriptive post once a day Monday - Friday. This normally takes me about 20-30 minutes to do. For this you can earn up to 8xp a week Extra! 3 Participation xp and 5 event xp, per week you are involved.
3: Do I need to take my character out of play in the channel to play by post?
A: NO! The play by post will be considered to have happened in your collective downtime and an event separate from the channel RP
4: Can I talk about what is happening in the PbP In character?
A: Yes and No. You may not talk about the events IC until the storyline ends! Once it is over, resolved and everyone returns to base, then it is considered to be complete and may be talked about IC.
5: XP?! How does that work?
A: XP will still be done weekly, but instead of being paid out every Saturday as per normal, it will all be paid out the Saturday after the story concludes. So if a play by post takes 3 weeks to resolve, at the end of the 3 weeks you will see 24 XP show up under awards and in your sheet, for 20 minutes of work a day!
6: How will combat and rolls work?
A: If/when you get into combat in your play by post rolls you will still do your 2-3 paragraphs but at the end you will, on a new line, type an summary of your requested actions like this: (Jay is going to try to kill this thing that just called him a dickwad)
The ST will get with you in channel, resolve the combat with you, respond to your post with a summary of the combat and the aftermath of it.
7: What kinds of things should be PbP?
A: The list of things the SHOULD be on play by post are as follows:
Quests for Fetish items
Quests for Powerful/Player Created gifts
Player Requested Wyrm Hunts
This is what COULD be on play by post:
Spirit Guide Quests
Vision Quests
Totem seeking Quests as a Pack
Anything else you would normally play in channel but don't meet with the player regularly in channel.
I hope this clears up a few things up. Please post any additional questions to this section and I will do my best to answer and add them to this FAQ. Thank you.
