Name: Black Fury
Plural: Black Furies
Pronounciation: blak' fyur'-ees
Nicknames: Furies
Totem:
Pegasus: Totem of Respect. Tribal Totem to the Black Furies, Pegasus is a protector of sacred places. It comes to packs that want to follow it as a winged horse with fire in its eyes. The use of a gender neutral term is used with this totem due to the fact that they have been "he" and "She". Most assume that Pegasus is a She because they will not allow any Males to join her tribe. But in Greek Mythology, Pegasus is referred to as a "He". To add to the gender confusion, Furies are often called "Daughters of Pegasus". However gender shouldn't really matter to a spirit, even one who's tribe defends females at all costs. And whiles this spirits genders is in a great deal of dispute, it still does not allow members of the Get of Fenris to ever join its packs. Those who do follow Pegasus gain extra willpower, and have an improved connection to the animal world. It is seen as a great honor to be able to serve this totem, and all will take notice of this. To top this off, anyone running in a pack dedicated to Pegasus's purpose will have an easier time interacting with his/her/its daughters.
But wither you are a Black Fury, or just running in a pack under this totem, you must always aid females of any species, young Females in particular. helping children puts you in good favor of Pegasus as well.
Tales of the Tribe:
These ferocious defenders of the Wyld call Greece their home, though they have established a strong presence in North America over the last two centuries. This tribe, almost entirely composed of female Garou, is renowned for its members' honor, ferocity, and attunement to the sacred. The Furies claim that Luna, in her aspect as Artemis the Huntress, created their tribe from she-wolves and appointed them to be protectors of the Wyld, defenders of women, and punishers of men. They uphold these duties with grim determination.
Other tribes look askance at the Furies, who give away or kill their male children. Many outside the tribe see the Furies as man-haters, but the truth is much more complex. Although the tribe tolerates male metis, the Furies have a definite gender bias; they believe that women share a deeper bond with Gaia than any man can know, and see themselves as aspects of the Goddess incarnate. In her name, they Rage against any insult to women, nature or the Goddess. They accept the Triat and the existence of the Wyrm, but when it encroaches on their territory, woe be unto it.
Black Furies maintain strong ties to ancient mysticism. Their rites are complex and quite beautiful, and their Gifts and spirit allies reflect a primal connection to the Wyld. Prior to any great test, a Black Fury will purify herself in a ritual bath in the open under the light of the moon, typically in a glade protected by the Furies. This protection is taken very seriously - though the Wyrm must be fought, if the Wyld places are not protected then there will be nothing left after the last battles. Fury Kin are protected just as righteously, and are often active in their own right working for protection of wilderness and the rights of women.
Black Furies place a high value on their honor; even their hated rivals concede that the tribe can be trusted. Although strong in character, they are few in number and their radical stance alienates many Garou.
Appearance:
In Crinos, Hispo and Lupus forms, a Black Fury’s fur is black or a very deep gray; some exhibit white, gray or silver highlights.
Homelands:
The lands around the Aegean and Black Sea of Greece, since legendary times, the Furies have acted to defend women and to punish those who violate the natural way of things; they hold fast to the former part of their protectorate more than the latter in these final days. They have a strong affinity for the ancient, wild and sacred places, and will defend those to the last, but in modern days have taken up arms in the cities to better strike at their foes’ hearts. Their Kin are both male and female, but males are more likely to be tasked with building influence in mortal society, and some are viewed as little better than breeding stock.
Tribal Disadvantage: The Black Furies are more likely to frenzy when angered by men than they are by women (or even by sexless spirits). They are at a -1 difficulty when rolling for frenzy after being provoked by a male. This Drawback does not impact a Fury’s day-to-day interactions with men; it only affects them when frenzy is a danger.
Tribal Organization:
Females dominate the Black Furies’ tribal hierarchy; although male metis are permitted to remain in the tribe, they rarely take positions of authority. The ruling body of the tribe is known as the Outer Calyx, consisting of 13 veteran Black Furies from across the world who coordinate tribal activities on a global scale. The Outer Calyx is answerable only to the Inner Calyx, five elder Furies rumored to be selected by the Incama Artemis herself.
Initial Willpower: 3
Backgrounds: No restrictions
Tribal Camps:
The Amazons of Diana - A camp which skews young in comparison to the others. Members of this camp live to battle fiercely, and have a reputation of choosing a warrior lifestyle over that of an avenger.
The Bacchantes - Also called Maenads. This camp is the fiercest defender of the Mother, hunting down and destroying the most severe violator of Gaia's laws in overwhelmingly violent acts which are often depicted as natural disasters. Violators include physical abusers, rapists, vast polluters, etc...
The Freebooters - Maintains a vigilant search for new Wyld places, and/or previously holy places which can be reconsecrated to serve as caerns. Members of this camp also manage to "obtain" misused fetishes to cleanse for holy use or destroy outright.
The Moon-Daughters - Seeking to preserve Gaia through the changing times, this camp keeps closely to the modern world, embracing a New Age mentality.
The Order of Our Merciful Mother - Oft derided by other groups, this camp centers on a balance between worshiping Gaia and loyalty to the Catholic Church. Originally created to subvert the patriarchal religion, the camp now seeks to work within humanity using the tools that are available to them.
The Sisterhood - The network of the tribe, this camp maintains a wide range of contacts and information similar to Glass Walkers or Bone Gnawers. The camp served as a pre-Underground Railroad for Garou (and Kinfolk) during the Inquisition.
The Temple of Artemis - A camp which skews older in comparison to the others. Made up of the most elderly and respectful Furies, this camp is also the most conservative in its doctrinal view. They are staunch allies of the Bacchantes camp, providing wisdom to the existing rage.
